Namibia will make an oral statement before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Israel's war on Gaza at the Peace Palace in The Hague, Netherlands, next Friday, February 23rd.

The submission will address the legal consequences arising from the policies and practices of Israel in the occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.

Cabinet has designated the Ministry of Justice to deliver Namibia's statement during the proceedings.

In a statement, the ministry clarified that the submissions do not concern South Africa's initiated genocide case against Israel, as reported in a local daily newspaper.

The ministry stated that the opinion to be argued by Namibia stems from written submissions made by Namibia to the ICJ in July last year.

The Cabinet has also approved the appointment of Professor Phoebe Okowa as legal counsel to present the oral arguments on behalf of Namibia at The Hague.

Okowa, a Kenyan national, is currently a professor of public international law and director of graduate studies at Queen Mary University in London.
