The 2024 Rugby season kicked off with wins for Unam, Grootfontein, Kudus, and Rehoboth in their Premier League matches.

The UNAM stadium hosted one of the opening games for the season as UNAM took on Wanderers.

Wanderers started the match strongly with flyhalf Jaques Theron scoring their first try.

Unam, however, gradually found their stride and began to dominate the game, scoring two tries through center Keiron Diergaardt and speedy winger Shareave Titus, leading at halftime with a score of 14-5.

The second half saw UNAM maintain their lead with two penalty conversions before Titus scored another try, albeit controversially awarded. Upon review, it appeared that the ball left his hands before grounding, which should have resulted in a knock-on call. However, the try stood. Without the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR), such decisions may persist.

With UNAM leading 25-5, they added another try on the left wing, securing an additional 5 points.

Wanderers had opportunities and managed to score two tries in the final 15 minutes, with the full-time score ending at UNAM 30, Wanderers 17.

In other matches, Grootfontein defeated defending champions United 28-26. Meanwhile, at the Coast, Kudus overcame a determined Falcons side with a score of 40-32, and Rehoboth secured a convincing 50-10 victory over newcomers Dolphins.

The Premier League action continues next weekend.
