Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has commended the Grootfontein municipality for putting measures in place to address the ongoing cholera outbreak in the town. 

Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare is in Grootfontein to assess the cholera situation as the outbreak threatens the town, especially its informal settlements. 

To help mitigate the spread of the cholera outbreak in Grootfontein, its municipality has started providing water at different points as they look at addressing sanitation.

This was confirmed by Grootfontein mayor Moritz Gaingob during a briefing with Otjozondjupa Governor John ||Khamuseb.

The Ministry of Health and Social Services has announced 32 confirmed cholera cases in the Grootfontein District as of 12 January. Of 99 suspected cases, 32 were confirmed, with zero deaths recorded.

Otjozondjupa police are calling on the public to help identify a female murder suspect captured on CCTV walking with a male victim minutes before the killing.

Otjozondjupa Health Director Gerbhado Timotheus has expressed concern over the increase in cholera cases at Grootfontein, with 22 positive cases confirmed.

The 22 cases stem from 83 samples tested, with 40 testing negative and the rest remaining pending.

A teacher at a Grootfontein primary school has been arrested in connection with alleged sexual assault involving schoolgoing boys.

Amid a declared cholera outbreak, residents of Kap en Bou Informal Settlement are demanding that Grootfontein Municipality provide basic services to curb the spread. 

Grootfontein Mayor Talitha Garises bade farewell to elderly community members of the town by hosting a Christmas lunch, as she is set to retire from office this week.

Garises has been at the helm of the town municipality since 2022.

A team of medical officers from both Otjiwarongo and Windhoek has been dispatched to Grootfontein, where five cases of cholera have been detected.
