A Grootfontein-based young entrepreneur has developed a cellphone application aimed at combating crime.

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) will hold by-elections in four constituencies by June of this year.

The positions became vacant following the swearing-in of four councillors as members of the National Assembly last week.

Hundreds of mourners gathered at Omulunga Stadium in Grootfontein for the memorial service honouring the late Founding President Sam Nujoma, whom they described as a courageous and resilient leader.

The Otjozondjupa region is approximately 90 percent ready to host the regional memorial for founding President Sam Nujoma in Grootfontein on Monday.

Governor James Uerikua stated that the only remaining task for the day of the memorial will be decorating the venue.

The Police Inspector General has promised to intensify police visibility and community collaborations to combat farm crimes in the Grootfontein district, Otjozondjupa.

Residents of the Otjiwarongo and Grootfontein constituencies in the Otjozondjupa Region can expect to vote for their new constituency councillors in separate by-elections before June 2025. 

About 400 election officials from the Tsumkwe and Grootfontein clusters are receiving training.

The training coincided with the issuing of duplicate voter cards for Grootfontein and Tsumkwe constituencies.

The Grootfontein Municipality has named 27 streets in Omulunga Extention 2 after different minerals that are indigenous to the Grootfontein Constituency. 

Street names provide essential references for navigation, helping residents, visitors, and emergency services locate addresses easily.
