Northern Giants are one step closer to the 2024 Namibia Rugby Premier League semi-final spot by scoring four tries against visiting Wanderers.
In the northern town of Grootfontein, the hosts, in blue and white, welcomed second-placed Wanderers.
The match kicked off with a blistering start for the home side as talisman and captain Wikus Jacobs crossed the whitewash twice to give them a 10-point lead. However, Wanderers quickly responded when a Denzo Bruwer attempt was adjudged a deliberate obstruction, resulting in a penalty try.
Inspired by this, Wanderers struck twice more. Winger Nadivatu Karuuombe and fullback Tareekuye Tjipute both touched down to give the visitors a 21-10 lead at halftime.
The second half began with Wanderers extending their advantage as Reben Botha crashed over for their fourth try. Grootfontein managed to hit back with a try of their own, but Wanderers continued to dominate, adding a penalty and another try to their tally.
Despite a spirited fightback from the hosts, who managed to score two more tries, Wanderers emerged victorious with a 48-31 win.
Although Grootfontein fell short of victory, they secured a valuable bonus point for scoring four tries. This puts them in a strong position to clinch the final semifinal spot, but defending champions United are still in contention.
Elsewhere, Suburbs suffered a disappointing defeat against Kudus, while Rehoboth beat United at the bees kraal with a final score of 32-26.In Windhoek Reho Falcons had to bend the knee to Unam with a staggering 74-35.
