The City Police will be intensifying their patrols this weekend due to the increase of criminal activities during holidays.

They urge residents and the public at large to be more careful and vigilant during this period.

Public Relations Officer for the City Police, Marcelline Murapo, is urging homeowners to be cautious when going on holidays and not leave their homes unattended or inform their neighbours about their absence.

She says that homeowners should ensure that their alarms are on and house lights are switched off, as criminals often monitor these mistakes and take advantage of the opportunity. Further urging homeowners not to leave their firearms unattended at home, as criminals will often steal these weapons and use them to carry out other criminal activities.

Murapo says they will not turn a blind eye to motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol, as it is one of the major causes of car accidents.

She warns motorists arrested for drink and driving will be locked up and only released after the Easter holiday.

Murapo emphasised that drivers should ensure that they abide by traffic rules and ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy. She urged the public to refrain from discussing their holiday plans in the presence of strangers, as it would draw attention.

She says they will be patrolling throughout the entire city 24 hours to ensure that criminal activity is nipped in the bud.
