President Nangolo Mbumba says Namibia's partnership with the European Union (EU) is not just over the natural resources but also the bond created that serves as a motivation to succeed in implementing agreements.

In 2022, Namibia and the European Union signed an agreement to develop a strategic and detailed hydrogen roadmap as well as identify concrete actions for cooperation between the two parties.

The agreement, which was signed by the late President Hage Geingob and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, further establishes sustainable raw material value chains and renewable hydrogen, as well as a sustainable supply of raw materials, especially the critical ones.

President Mbumba is pleased that the technocrats tasked with implementing agreements from both sides are doing so just as the late Dr. Geingob would have wanted.

Consistent with the global agenda of reducing carbon emissions, the Namibia-EU Partnership agreement lists raw materials such as lithium, cobalt, and natural graphite for batteries or rare earth elements for permanent magnets for wind turbines and electric motors as enabling factors for decarbonising energy production.

The EU Ambassador to Namibia lauded this as a strategic choice for Namibia, as European companies are eager for investments.

President Mbumba and the EU Ambassador, Ana Beatriz Martins, exchanged these views during a courtesy visit at State House.
