The Meat Board of Namibia has changed its name to the Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia (LLPBN) to include under its mandate dairy products, animal hides, and poultry and poultry products.

The Meat Board is mandated by the Meat Industry Act to regulate cattle, goats, sheep, and pigs. However, the ACT was amended to ensure the company would serve all livestock and livestock by-products. As a result, the company will market additional commodities such as poultry, eggs, and dairy products.

The Manager of Marketing at the LLPBN, Desmond Cloete, says the company is still busy finalising the regulations to add the additional commodities.

"What we are doing is that the amendment makes provision for what we call general levis; the general levis will make sure that the Livestock and Livestock Products Board is equipped financially to start doing the regulations, which includes appointing new staff members. So with the new regulations that we are busy with still in the drafting stage, there is still a long road to go."
