Ahead of the national elections in November, Popular Democratic Movement President McHenry Venaani says his party is ready to set up a coalition government to govern the country.
Venaani made the remarks at a packed rally at Okakarara.
Venaani described this year's upcoming Presidential and National Assembly Elections as highly contested, urging the youth to vote for young leaders like him to occupy the highest office in the land.
"PDM is ready, and when we say we are ready, we are ready to take on and take the baton of this country. As we are getting ready, we are seeing that for the first time, this country will be led by a coalition government because a lot of political parties are going to grab votes, and one of the biggest grabbers is PDM. But this election is for young people. 71% of the Namibian population are young people. It is young people who must go and vote and stand in numbers to bring about change in this country."
Venaani says youths must emulate the Senegalese who voted into power, 44-year-old Bassiou Diomaye Faye, saying youthful leaders can address challenges facing young people.
"I want to urge young Namibians: this is your election; this is your time to make an appointment with the future. It is your time to make an appointment with destiny so that we can create employment opportunities for the young people of this country. When young people are looking for jobs in Namibia, they are told they must have 10 years of experience. Where will you have 10 years of experience if you have never had a job in your lifetime? We must raise, we must stand together, we must remain resolute in action, and let's deliver a youth vote in the coming elections."
Venaani added that the PDM will tackle corruption and that his administration will put young people into ministerial portfolios.
He urged his members to mobilise and educate all eligible voters within their jurisdictions to register and participate in the elections.
