Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, re-affirmed the government's commitment to ensuring that all citizens reap the benefits of independence. 

She stated that providing access to basic and essential needs is crucial for the development and well-being of every Namibian.

Addressing the residents of Oshikunde Constituency during the belated 34th Independence celebration held at Oshifitu Village in Ohangwena Region, Theofelus says since Independence, so many dreams have been realised as a result of economic emancipation.

She says the government continues to make efforts to implement policies and programmes that speak to the needs and challenges of the residents in order to improve their livelihoods.

"Hence, the government has put up social safety nets to assist vulnerable communities in claiming their dignity, such as the old pension and disability grants, and that's what has been done to assist the community in attaining development of any kind in their homes. Through economic emancipation, we are also thriving to have a knowledge-based economy through industrialization by having skilled people."

The ICT Minister notes that technology continues to evolve rapidly, and her ministry has thus allocated a budget to put up network towers in remote areas.

"The government will continue to implement various programmes and projects. I was listening to the message that was delivered by the children as they were entertaining us here that you need a proper road here. I can personally attest to that having travelled on the same route. As for the network towel, it's good that I am here as the ICT Minister. I have discovered that you truly need network reception, as I also cannot make any calls at the moment due to network outages. I have heard you, my people, and I am happy to inform you that this financial year, we have allocated 30 million to install network towels throughout the country, with one being provided to Oshikunde Constituency here in the Oshifitu area."
