The Okandjoze Chiefs Assembly organised different activities leading up to Genocide Day tomorrow.
The day aims to remember the extermination and horrendous acts committed by Germans against the Nama and OvaHerero people during the 1904–1908 wars of extermination.
The commemoration activities started on May 25 with exhibitions, prayer sessions, a night vigil, panel discussions, cultural performances, and the lighting of the traditional fire of hope.
Different dates were suggested by the descendants for Genocide Remembrance Day.
The public is invited to join the march on March 28.
The march will start at UN Plaza in Katutura and go up to the Independence Memorial Museum, where different speeches and solidarity messages will be shared.
The National Genocide Remembrance Day motion was tabled in Parliament last year and sent to the parliamentary committee on public holidays for further consultations.
