In a significant move to honour the past and chart the future, Namibian youth are actively participating in a dialogue, commemorating National Genocide Remembrance Day.

Maria Katjaita is one of the organisers of the National Genocide Remembrance Day event, which promotes youth debate and inclusivity, helping young Namibians better understand where they come from.

"We have realised that many of our young people really do not know about the genocide; it's not very much covered in the Namibian schools, and our young people do not know what it is all about. That's why we thought it'd be wise to organise today an event where we have invited some high schools and primary schools to talk about genocide. They have to tell us what they think is genocide, and if we see that they do not know, we will certainly organise more educational events because this is ours."

By engaging young Namibians in discussions about their history, the organisers hope to ensure that the atrocities committed are not forgotten and that the lessons learned continue to resonate with future generations.
