Lesotho has lobbied for Namibia's support for its candidate for the Commonwealth Secretary General position.

The Special Envoy to Prime Minister Samuel Matekane, led by the Foreign Minister, paid a courtesy visit to President Nangolo Mbumba at State House.

Lesotho, representing the southern region with fellow African nations Ghana and Gambia, is in the race for nomination as the Secretary General of the Commonwealth with its 56 member states, including Namibia.

The last time this seat was held by Africa was in 1999–2000.

The Commonwealth heads of state are set to meet in Apia, Samoa, in October.
