The International University of Management (IUM) has refuted allegations that it does not offer the appropriate courses in accordance with its mandate. The university issued a response to a media report attributed to the Secretary to the Cabinet, Dr. George Simataa.

During the "State-Owned Enterprises Annual General Meeting," Dr. Simataa was quoted as saying that both IUM and NUST do not provide courses that align with the universities' mandates. He urged the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) to ensure that tertiary institutions offer courses in line with their mandates. In a press release, IUM stated that this statement not only misrepresents the university but is also misleading.

IUM is mandated to provide quality higher education and innovative research initiatives that contribute to national development. The statement emphasises that over its 20-year history, IUM has produced numerous professionals who have made significant contributions to national development in both the public and private sectors. Therefore, the university argues that it is naive to believe that the university's operations or those of any other institution should be exclusively limited to its name.

The statement further clarifies that all programmes at the university include management components. However, it emphasises that IUM is not restricted from offering demand-driven programmes.

Therefore, the university is calling on Dr. Simataa to retract his statement, as it poses a danger to IUM's reputation. Dr. Simataa could not be reached for comment.
