The manager of Ai Ais Resort in Fish River Canyon, Jaffeth Xoagub, has reassured hikers and visitors to the canyon that despite the low water levels, several water points have been set up to ensure an effective supply of water.

The Fish River Canyon is the second-largest fish river in the world. 

It is located in the south of Namibia and is the largest canyon in Africa, as well as the second most visited tourist attraction in Namibia. 

Tourists from all over the world make the journey to Ai Ais each year between May and September to take part in hiking trails while enjoying the breath-taking beauty of the Namibian landscape.

The canyon is 160 kilometres long, 27 kilometres wide, and almost 550 metres deep. 

Due to the persistent drought that resulted in the low water level in the canyon, the NWR employed more water marshals to ensure that hikers and day visitors to the camps are provided with fresh drinking water throughout their five-day hiking trails. 

Xoagub says that despite the low water levels, they have experienced an increase in visits compared to the same period last year. He says that most visitors are attracted to the hot springs and the swimming pools. 

As is customary at the Ai Ais Resort, hikers receive overwhelming applause and encouragement for completing the journey, which could take between four to six days.
