The President of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Dennis Francis, has arrived in Namibia this afternoon. 

Ambassador Francis' four-day visit is in preparation for the Summit of the Future, which will be co-hosted by Namibia and Germany in September.

Francis was received at the Hosea Kutako International Airport by the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security. Lucia Witbooi, the UN Country Representative Hopolang Phororo, and the Executive Director in the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, Penda Naanda. 

Francis is expected to engage with the National Youth Council at NIPAM this evening. 

On Wednesday, he will engage the leadership of the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia and visit the Heroes Arce. 

On Thursday, Francis will pay a courtesy call to the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr. Peya Mushelenga.

He will also address Parliament and attend the 20th session of the Dr. Theo Ben Gurirab Lecture Series. 

During his visit, he is also expected to pay a courtesy call to President Nangolo Mbumba and Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

The visit is also part of the outreach activities of Francis to various UN member states on the urgent need to accelerate the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The Summit of the Future, scheduled for September 22–23 this year, is a high-level event that will use the convening power of the UN General Assembly to forge international consensus on the SDG's.
