Namibia made it to the top 10 in global gender parity, ranking in eighth place. 

This was revealed in the 2024 Global Gender Gap Report of the World Economic Forum.

21 out of 35 economies are in the top 100, and Namibia stands out as a top-10 performer.

Sub-Saharan Africa has featured in sixth place with a gender parity score of 68 percent. 

The report states that the region has advanced by an overall 5.6 percentage points since 2006.

Further indicating that the countries in the region have closed over 70 percent of their gender gap.

However, the top and bottom ranks are divided by 22.8 percent. Although no country has yet achieved full gender parity, 

The report says the top nine countries have closed at least 80 percent of the gap.

These include Iceland, Finland, Norway, New Zealand, Sweden, Nicaragua, Germany, Ireland, and Namibia.

More so, the lack of meaningful, widespread change since the last edition effectively slows down the rate of progress to attain parity.

Based on the current data in the report, it will take 134 years to reach full parity.
