The Keetmanshoop Municipality has honoured the athletic achievements of Brave Gladiators' goal poacher Zenatha Coleman by naming a street in the Southern town after her. Coleman, who was born in Keetmanshoop, later moved to the Jacky Shipanga Academy in Windhoek.
Currently playing in the Turkish Women's Football League for Fenerbahce SK and captaining Namibia's Women's National Team, the Brave Gladiators, Zenatha Coleman is a well-known figure in Namibian sports circles. The young talented player was born and raised thirty years ago in the dusty streets of Keetmanshoop.
She informed NBC Sport that being recognised for her sporting achievements in this manner is a clear indication that hard work pays off. Visibly emotional, Coleman couldn't contain her excitement but took the opportunity to encourage others, especially women, to continue dreaming big and use their skills to bring about positive changes in their communities.
''I think this is the proudest moment for me and my family especially for my late grandfather Salute Coleman it is because of him who I am and I just want to say to the Keetmanshoop municipality thank you so much'' the Brave Warriors striker said.
The recognition not only excited Coleman but also brought joy to her grandmother Elisabeth Coleman .
''Today I feel so proud as the mother of this young lady she played with a tennis ball with her late grandfather in these dusty streets of Tseiblaagte even her mother and her uncles assisted her in the player she became today and we as a family are very proud of her'' Elisabeth Coleman stated.
The Keetmanshoop municipality has been actively engaging the community in various meetings to nominate and rename former street names in the town.
The Keetmanshoop Mayor Mc Donald Hanse also gave a speech at the ceremony.
''We are proud to be associated with the Namibian Soccer and when we say Namibian Soccer we are also talking about Keetmanshoop and you are responsible for that happiness in all of us today therefore please take the honour and carry Keetmanshoop, Namibia for many more years on your shoulders and only the sky must be your limit'' Hanse said.
Many residents came to witness and support Zenatha Coleman on her latest achievement.
