Of the 1,731,790 Namibians eligible to vote, less than 50% (823,761) have so far registered at the different registration points across the country and at the various registration points at all Namibian diplomatic missions abroad since the start of the General Registration of Voters (GRV) on June 3 to July 6.
Omaheke remains the region with the lowest number of registered voters, at 24,261 out of the 60,053 eligible voters. Of the 335,354 eligible voters in the |Khomas Region, only 152,920 have registered so far.
The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has expressed concern at the low turnout at the registration points, with Chief Electoral and Referenda Officer Peter Shaama saying "The Commission, therefore, urges all eligible Namibian citizens who have not yet registered to do so within the three weeks remaining before the end of the GRV period. Namibians are further reminded that there is no window opportunity for extending the period of voter registration."
The GRV continues across the country and at all Namibian diplomatic missions abroad until August 1, 2024, Monday to Saturday, from 08:00 to 19:00.
