As campaigns take shape ahead of the national elections, Swapo Party Central Committee member James Uerikua says the country is firm and solid under the leadership of the Swapo Party.

Uerikua expressed this at a mini-rally held at Okamatapati settlement.

Uerikua says that for the past 34 years, the Swapo Party has continued to lead the nation, despite developmental challenges. 

"Namibia is not on trial. It is not an issue of trial and error. Leading lives, every decision that you take on a daily basis affects the citizenry. So we are not here to experiment; vote for me when I get there. I will do A and B. SWAPO is saying that we have done what we have done for the past 34 years, and of course, what we are asking is that you give us a renewed mandate for us to complete the mission."

The Otjozondjupa Regional Governor highlighted the country's recorded successes in road and water infrastructure, urban and rural development, social grants for vulnerable people, drought relief aid, housing, and education facilities.

Uerikua stressed that the theme for this year's campaign speaks to unity, diversity, natural resource benefits, and youth empowerment for social development.

Swapo Party Coordinator for the Otjozondjupa Region, Imms Namaseb, called on the residents to register to be able to take part in elections.

So far, less than 60,000 eligible voters have registered in the region.

"Our purpose is to encourage you and also to mobilise the masses to go out and register. Now is the time for registration. We only have 20 days. We only have 20 days to go. We are really, really concerned about our numbers for registration, and we need our numbers. We need our people, our comrades, to go and register."

Registration of voters concludes on August 1, and the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) says there will be no extension.
