B2Gold Namibia hands over classrooms at Ombili Primary School

Learners of Ombili Primary School at Otjiwarongo are no longer being taught in tents, thanks to B2Gold Namibia, which has built them into a fully-fledged school.

Every year, the education sector faces numerous challenges, especially related to the placement of learners in the primary grades and a lack of proper structure.

At Ombili, where the project school started in 2019, 138 learners who could not find placement were taught in tents.

UERIKUA PRAISES YOUTH UNITY AT REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

Exportation of livestock on hooves will collapse abattoirs - Uerikua

Otjozondjupa Governor James Uerikua has cautioned that the exportation of livestock on hooves will collapse the already struggling local abattoirs and feedlot throughputs.

Uerikua shared these remarks at the official opening of the Okamatapati Agricultural and Industrial Expo.

He says the export of over 2,500 weaners on hooves to South Africa in 2022 alone is concerning, and some farmers are now seeking alternative markets to get value for their livestock.

Census concerns on private farms

As the nation gears itself for the imminent Population and Housing Census exercise, Otjozondjupa Governor James Uerikua has voiced concern over private farm owners that act as "mini republics" and deny officials access to the workers employed on their premises.

Uerikua made this remark during a courtesy visit by the nbc's Chief of News and Programming, Menesia Muinjo, and various heads of department as well as staff members to his office recently.

Otjozondjupa Governor James Uerikua wants the farmers' trade unions' books audited for accountability.

Uerikua was speaking at the Namibia National Farmers Union (NNFU) Special Congress at Otjiwarongo.

The governor says the farmers' union books must be audited and open to the public for scrutiny.

This, he explained, will help to keep the running affairs of farmers activities concerning financial matters in check.

Okakarara Trade Fair fundraising

Deputy Prime Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called on the Okakarara Trade Fair Society to continue developing platforms for SMEs to network, market, and showcase locally produced goods.

Nandi-Ndaitwah's remarks were shared on her behalf by Otjozondjupa Governor James Uerikua during the Okakarara Trade Fair fundraising dinner.

Nandi-Ndaitwah says Okakarara offers remarkable cultural, economic, and historical traits, and the fair is a great platform to drive commercial prospects and strengthen the economic sector.

Need to add value to the devil's claw plant - Uerikua

Otjozondjupa Regional Governor James Uerikua says there is a need to intensify linkages and add value to the devil's claw plant.

Uerikua made these remarks at a two-day training and certification workshop for 30 devil's claw harvesters from different conservancies in the Okakarara Constituency.

Namibia currently ranks as the world's largest exporter of Devil's Claw, with the market estimated at between 400 and 600 tonnes of annual exports.

NamPol urge for public cooperation

The Police in the Otjozondjupa Region have called on the inhabitants to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies to curb criminal activities.

Otjozondjupa Police Commander Commissioner Henrich Tjiveze made this call during an outreach awareness campaign on drug law enforcement in Otjiwarongo.

The outreach campaign, which was mainly attended by children, aims to educate members of the public on the impact and consequences of engaging in criminal activities.
