The SADC Electoral Advisory Council in Namibia (SEAC) for pre-election assessment is referred to as a goodwill mission for the November elections.

The purpose of the eight-day consultations is to inform the SEAC of the views of the stakeholders concerning the conduct of the elections.

Another aim of the visit is to further assess the political and security environment prevailing in the country for free, fair, transparent, credible, and peaceful elections in conformity with revised SADC Principles and Guidelines ahead of the elections.

"In line with the standard practice of observing elections in SADC member states, the revised SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections and the SADC Electoral Advisory Council's Instructions, Rules, and Procedures provide that the SEAC shall undertake a pre-election assessment goodwill mission to a member state that is due to hold general elections," said Limakatso Mokhothu, a member of the SEAC.

The SEAC mission will assess if the political and security environment in the country is conducive and assess the legal framework governing the upcoming elections.

It should also look at the electoral commission's preparedness and readiness to conduct the 2024 poll.

Tuesday's consultation engaged journalists on Namibia's preparedness for the upcoming elections.
