The People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China is ready to cooperate and assist in the development and modernization of the Namibian Defence Force.

The Chinese Embassy in Namibia hosted a celebration of the 97th anniversary of the People Liberation Army of China in Windhoek.

The Chinese Defence Attaché, Colonel Li Shujun, stated that the time-tested friendship between China and Namibia, which withstood changes in the international landscape, is highly valued and deeply cherished by the people of the two countries.

Colonel Li stressed that the long-lasting relationship between the PLA and the NDF is a testimony to and a leading example of the strategic comprehensive cooperative partnership, providing a solid bedrock for the development of bilateral relations.

"The PLA and the NDF are determined to cooperate more closely as brothers in arms. The PLA always stands ready to offer a helping hand in the development and modernization of the NDF, standing shoulder to shoulder to safeguard the common interests of China and Namibia as well as secure regional peace and stability."

Namibia's Defence Force Chief of Staff for Joint Operations, Major General Joshua Namindo, congratulated the People's Liberation Army of China on its 97th anniversary.

Major General Namindo spoke on behalf of Air Marshal Martin Pinehas, the Chief of the Namibian Defence Force.

"We hail the high-level cooperation between the NDF and the People's Liberation Army of China, especially in the area of training and capacity building to enhance the operational capabilities of the Namibian army."

The People's Liberation Army of China has so far dispatched more than 50,000 troops to 25 peacekeeping missions worldwide. 

A total of 17 Chinese peacekeepers died in the execution of their duties in these peacekeeping operations.
