The Gymnastics qualification event hosted by the National Gymnastics Federation at the Windhoek Showground hall over the weekend was a significant gathering for the sport in Namibia.
Over 300 Gymnasts from nine clubs across the country participated, ranging from as young as five years old to senior gymnasts.
The event, which spanned three days, was packed with coaches, parents, and enthusiastic participants, starting on Friday afternoon and concluding on Sunday.
This competition was the second qualifying event, following the first one in Walvis Bay a few weeks ago.
The President of Rhythmic Gymnastics in Namibia provided more insights. "We are currently in our second qualification. We have two qualifications a year and a National Championship.Right now, this weekend, we have our second qualifying competition. We are really looking for our gymnastics to grow, our sport to grow, and to bring our community together, and that is what we are promoting." she said
Among the participants were the Babinos, a group of young gymnasts excited to compete.
Nuriana Kalongue from Iswb Club stated that "I like gymnastics because the moves make me comfortable. I practice all month at home and in my classes. I want to be at the Olympics and be famous like others. It's just my passion."
Melana Shiweda and Fiath Tjituka were part of the participants at the event they also gave their input on the event
"I am happy and normally perform well in gymnastics." Tjituka said
"I like gymnastics very much. I want to go to other countries because of it" Shiweda said.
The next major event on the gymnastics calendar is the National Championships, scheduled to be held in Windhoek in October, covering levels one to three.
