
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has emphasised Namibia's commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation with Russia through the Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
Established in 2005, the Namibia-Russian Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation guides cooperation in political, economic, trade, humanitarian, and other fields.
Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah held talks with the visiting Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Yuri Trutnev, at State House.
During the meeting, President Nandi-Ndaitwah and Deputy Prime Minister Trutnev underscored the strong ties between Namibia and Russia, underpinned by their previous collaborations as co-chairs of the Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
They both acknowledged the sound relations between Namibia and Russia that had seen a series of high-level exchanges between officials and key cooperation agreements.
During the 2024 meeting of the Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation held in Russia, a need to review methods of attracting investment between the two countries was identified.
Deputy Prime Minister Trutnev at the time conveyed the interests of Russian companies in geological prospecting for mineral resources of Namibia and skills transfer programmes to the benefit of Namibian professionals.
