Being the only female coach in the Oshana region, Rauna Wahengo Puyeipawa aspires to make a significant impact in the male-dominated football industry.

At the tender age of 13, Coach Puyeipawa dreamed of becoming a football player. This passion led her to pursue a coaching career, which began when she established her female football club in 2022.

As a coach, player, and teacher at her school, Puye has earned the trust of students in both their academic and athletic pursuits. This experience has enabled her to successfully guide her team to victories.

NBC Sport caught up with Puye to learn more about her journey and coaching philosophy.

In addition to coaching the female football club, Puye also coaches boys' teams, leveraging her extensive knowledge of the sport.

When asked about the challenges of being a female coach in a male-dominated field, Puye expressed confidence in her abilities and highlighted the support she has received.

Puyeipawa encourages her team to strive for continued success in the upcoming season. She also emphasizes the importance of increasing female participation in sports.

Coach Puyeipawa's team, Hope from Football Club, are the current champions of the Oshana Women's Football League. Their next match against African Stars is scheduled for August 17, 2024.
