Oshana Regional Police Commander, Naftal Lungameni Sakaria, said the Oshana Region has been busy with activities such as the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair, weddings, and the commemoration of Heroes Day, which was held in the Oshikoto Region, bordering Oshana.
While giving a review of the weekend crime report to nbc News, Commissioner Sakaria said despite the resulting increase in the number of vehicles and people in the region, they implemented a traffic strategy that helped to minimise the number of accidents, with only one fatality reported so far.
In terms of crime prevention, Sakaria said that looking at the numbers from Friday up to yesterday, only one case of murder has been reported.
Several incidences were reported at the OATF, mostly the snatching of items, especially on the first day. But since then they have intensified police presence, including a police mobile station inside the trade fair centre to ensure police services are provided promptly.
Commissioner Sakaria called on the residents to visit the OATF, adding that the event is properly organised, the security personnel on the ground are ensuring safety everywhere, and the parking area is properly guarded. He, however, urged people not to leave valuables in their vehicles as they attract attention from the criminals.
