Over 200 archers from five African countries competed last weekend at the Region Five African Genesis Archery Federation Championships in Walvis Bay.

A team of 16 archers was selected from the competition, with five Namibians making the cut.

The four-day championship featured fierce competition among archers from Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. They vied for top honours in the Adult Archery Generation (AAG) team, National team, and Development team categories, across Bull's Eye, 3D, and Overall events.

Namibia finished third in the AAG Competition, while the Namibian Development team secured first place. In the National Team Competition, Namibia achieved second place.

In a historic achievement, AGA Namibia saw five of its archers selected for the Africa Archery Federation team.

The selected archers are Jason Koch and Anielka Hayward from Danie Joubert Combined School, Ashton Ntsamba from Lighthouse Community Hope, Oliver Rothkegel from Central Elite Archery Club, and Burton Weakley from Windhoek High School.

AGA Namibia Federation President Poenie Weakley praised the high level of competition and the outstanding performance of the Namibian archers chosen for the Africa team.

The federation is planning its next event, the national competition, scheduled for September.

Additionally, Namibia will host the AGA World Championships at the coast next year.
