The Swapo Party Electoral College concluded with the announcement of its 96-member list for the November National Assembly Elections.
Helaria Mukapuli topped the women's list, while MICT Deputy Minister Modestus Amutse led the men's list, sparking a mix of excitement and surprise.
Notably, the youth made a strong showing, with MICT Minister Emma Theofelus securing a spot in the top 10 in her first electoral college appearance.
The top 10 on the Swapo list also features cabinet ministers Lucia Iipumbu, Iipumbu Shiimi, Fennie Nanyeni, Natangwe Ithete, and Philipus Katamelo.
Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has nominated 10 candidates to the party’s 96-member list. Among these are Environment and Tourism Minister Pohamba Shifeta, who dropped to 20th place, and Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, who is on the list in 21st place despite not being a candidate herself.
Other nominees from Nandi-Ndaitwah include former Swapo Youth League leader Dr. Elijah Ngurare, Dino Ballotti, veteran parliamentarian Alpheus !Naruseb, as well as Ruth Maseka, Linda Mbwale, Erastus Haitengela, and emerging figure Fenny Tjutavi.
Notably absent from the list are high-profile figures such as Pendukeni Iivula Ithana, Utoni Nujoma, Erastus Uutoni, Obeth Kandjoze, Tjekero Tweya, and veteran Jerry Ekandjo.
Also ranking below the current 63rd seat held by Swapo are Defense Minister Frans Kapofi, Deputy Education Minister Faustina Caley, Agnes Kafula, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Loide Kasingo, and Minister in the Presidency Christine ||Hoabes.
