During her address at the ICT Summit in Windhoek, the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, underscored the importance of embracing technological advancements while fostering resilience in an era marked by rapid digital change.

Theofelus hailed the summit as a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to shape Namibia's future in an increasingly digital world.

She highlighted how artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation are reshaping every aspect of life, from communication and work to public services and social interaction.

Minister Theofelus emphasised that Namibia stands at a critical juncture in its digital journey, noting that technology presents both vast opportunities and unique challenges.

"This transformation brings remarkable opportunities for innovation, economic growth, and social advancement. However, it also presents challenges that require thoughtful and proactive responses."

A key highlight of the address was Namibia's recent ranking by the International Monetary Fund, which placed the country 9th out of 54 African nations in terms of preparedness for AI adoption in 2024.

This ranking is a testament to Namibia's growing digital infrastructure and its readiness to leverage AI technology for national development.

"This ranking indicates that Namibia has made significant progress in developing the infrastructure and the underpinning environment necessary to leverage AI technology."

The summit, which will run for three days, will explore how Namibia can continue building a robust and resilient digital framework to ensure that technological advancements benefit all sectors of society and drive sustainable development.
