A Namibian delegation, comprising Nangula Geingos, the eldest daughter of the late President Hage Geingob, and Swapo Party Youth League Central Committee members, is in Venezuela to attend the World Conference on Anti-Fascism.

The World Congress will also honour the late President Geingob.

Geingos and Swapo Party Youth League Central Committee members Cleophas Nekundi and Cecelia Haufiku arrived in the South American country earlier this week to attend the two-day World Congress in the capital, Caracas. 

They are joined by representatives from 95 other countries at the World Congress against fascism.

Speaking to the media, Geingos pointed out that Namibia and Venezuela share long-standing ties that need to be strengthened.

"I want you to always remember your past, I want you to always participate in the present, to prepare for your future, and to know that you have a sister country in Namibia that wants to partner with you, that wants to dialogue with you; we want to exchange ideas with you; we want to make our countries better and stronger in many areas such as agriculture, tourism, oil and gas; we believe there are so many synergies between our countries, and we want to talk and engage."

Nekundi and Haufiku also expressed solidarity with the people of Venezuela.

"Our position is very clear: we say no to fascism and neo-colonialism that is manifesting itself under new political parties standing for regime change. Our stance is that Venezuelans know their country better, and they must be allowed to lead themselves and decide what is best for them, so we say no to fascism. The rights of the Venezuelans must be respected, as they know what is best for them," said Nekundi.
