To shape the future of vending activities in the Tukondjeni market, well known as Stop and Shop, the City of Windhoek engaged the vending operators in that area regarding their operations.

The city has instructed the Stop n Shop vendors to clean the marketplace by next Sunday.

The meeting aimed to find solutions for locating Stop and Shop vendors and addressed issues such as road trading, cleanliness, illegal trading, public health, disaster and risk management, as well as safety and security.

Windhoek Mayor Queen Kamati informed the vendors that illegal trading is unlawful, The city, Kamati said, has a plan for Stop n Shop and will be engaging with the vendors soon.

Officials warned those who have made the marketplace their bedrooms to discontinue this practice and cautioned those who have constructed their stalls on the road to refrain from doing so.

Meanwhile, the city is actively seeking solutions for all traders in Windhoek.

The meeting was attended by more than 500 vendors.
