Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba's autobiography was unveiled in Windhoek. 

The launch of the book was attended by high-level personalities, including President Nangolo Mbumba, government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and liberation stalwarts.

The autobiography "The Footprints of Hifikepunye Pohamba" or "Ondjila Eyi A Enda" details the life and times of the former president.

The autobiography tells the story of a humble, soft-spoken, and yet tough leader.

It is a recollection of national memories and details the path of a principled man who served in public office all his life.

The more than 400-page autobiography, which took five years to complete, unearthed information and events that are not in the public domain.

Told by Professor Ellen Ndeshi Namhila, who spent months with the former president to recount his life, the book chronicles a life of service and cultural roots. 

"We are talking about a memory of over 70 years, so it is not a joke to do that. The family history is complicated, and the family members who knew are no longer there. Tatekulu did not want to wait the five years."

While launching the book, the former Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Ben Amadhila, said it should be read by every Namibian and all Africans. 

"Especially the young ones, the born frees. They have the right to complain about how they experience Namibia or Africa today, but they also have the right to know how we as a nation got our freedom and independence in our countries, where our youth are not locked up for speaking out against oppression."

Through the book, the former president believes he has done his part and says it is now up to the current and future generations to do the same.

"It is, however, true that no single publication can adequately cover the full spectrum of historical or national development milestones. Gaps where they exist should and must be filled over time. Through this book, I believe that I have done my part." 

Proceeds of the book sales will go towards the Hifikepunye Pohamba Foundation, which has so far given scholarships of more than a million to students.

The book costs N$450 and can be obtained at the foundation.
