The Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) have welcomed back Michael Amushelelo, their former Economic Commissar. Amushelelo and the NEFF leadership claim his resignation earlier this year was a strategic ploy to divert attention from the party as it fought deregistration by the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN).

NEFF won the case, and Amushelelo has returned as the party prepares for the 2024 elections.

Amushelelo’s political career has been marked by frequent party switches and legal battles. He has faced ongoing court cases related to forex trading schemes, flagged as Ponzi schemes, with investigations into money laundering and fraud leading to asset seizures and frozen accounts.

His attempt to form the power party with Evalistus Kaaronda failed when it couldn’t be registered with the ECN.

After a brief stint with the Affirmative Repositioning Movement, he joined NEFF. However, when NEFF faced deregistration, he moved to the Landless People's Movement (LPM) but resigned soon after being placed 31 on their parliamentary list.

NEFF Deputy President Kalimbo Iipumbu expressed confidence in Amushelelo’s return, viewing it as a boost to the party’s leadership.

Despite criticisms of opportunism, NEFF hopes to leverage his return to rally support, particularly among the youth, as they focus on economic justice, land reform, and anti-corruption efforts ahead of the 2024 elections.
