Erongo Governor Neville Andre highlighted the vast potential of the maritime and fisheries sectors for creating jobs, driving innovation, and promoting sustainable resource management.

Andre was speaking at the graduation ceremony of 138 students in the fields of marine navigation and marine engineering from the Namibian Maritime and Fisheries Institute at Walvis Bay.

The governor emphasised that the oceans and waterways are ever-changing, requiring skilled and knowledgeable individuals to handle the challenges of today's world.

He said graduates joined a group of professionals who will carry forward Namibia's proud maritime heritage.

The training is in accordance with the International Maritime Organisation and the SADC Protocol on Maritime Education and Training.

André's speech was read on his behalf by his personal assistant, Michael Jimmy.

"By employing these graduates, you are not only investing in the future of your organisations but also in the sustainability and competitiveness of our country. These young professionals are ready to contribute, and it is imperative that we absorb them into the workforce where their skills can be harnessed to drive Namibia's growth and prosperity."

He therefore called upon employers to further collaborate with NAMFI to ensure that the training provided to the graduates meets the demands of an evolving industry.

Also speaking at the occasion was the Mayor of Walvis Bay, Trevino Forbes.

"I encourage each of you to carry forward the values of sustainability and responsibility and work together to achieve excellence in your fields. Congratulations to each and every one of you on this significant accomplishment. Go forth confidently, knowing you are entering a world where your skills and passions will make a profound impact."

Acting Director of NAMFI, Meriam Mwiya, said, "The world is in need of skilled professionals like yourselves who are dedicated to affecting positive change. I'd like to take this moment to express my sincere gratitude to our dedicated faculties and your state support and guidance crucial in shaping the future of our  graduates. The commitmen you have demonstrated towards excellence in education is truly commendable to the parents, families, and the employees of our graduates."
