Border and infrastructure protection post commanders are attending a five-day training course on Leadership and Development at Rundu.
The training is attended by postcommanders from all 14 regions.
The Leadership and Development training course is the first of its kind.
It covers various topics, including understanding the role and importance of leadership, principles of crisis management, leading during emergencies, and understanding group dynamics.
At the opening, Inspector General of the Police Joseph Shikongo said the training signifies a firm commitment to strengthening the capacity of those who serve at the front line of the nation's security.
"Through this training course, we aim to equip you with the leadership skills that will enable you to face the evolving challenges of border management and infrastructure security with confidence and foresight. In today's dynamic security environment, a well-rounded leader cannot only address immediate threats but also anticipate future challenges, thereby ensuring long-term stability and safety for our nation."
Lieutenant General Shikongo urged members to respect the police's dress code.
"I think you need to go and start developing the dressing standard, and I would really want to see it probably by early next year. I want us to have pamphlets indicating the dressing code of the Namibian Police Force."
The Head of Border and Infrastructure Protection, David Indongo, shared tangible successes of the directorate over the years.
Commissioner Indongo requested additional fleet, personnel, uniforms, and infrastructure upgrades at border posts.
