NFA President Robert Shimooshili has hailed the recently held CAF African Schools football championship's COSAFA Qualifier, held in Walvis Bay, as a success.

Held at Walvis Bay's Jan Wilken Stadium, the championship brought together schools within the COSAFA football region to compete for bragging rights in both the under-15 boys' and girls' categories.

NFA President Robert Shimooshili could not hide his excitement about the championship, which serves the important cause of football development at the grassroots level.

Shimooshili also highlighted the need for financial backing from the corporate world after the host country, Namibia, was knocked out in the early stages.

The CAF African Schools Championships is an initiative by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) aimed at promoting football at the grassroots level across Africa.

The championship in Walvis Bay was won by South Africa in both categories, with the winners receiving 1,8 million Namibia dollars each, while both the runners-up in the girls' category, Malawi, and in the boys' category, Zambia, each got 1,3 million Namibia dollars. 

This is more than some of the elite league winners on the continent, including the Namibia Premier League.
