The Electricity Control Board's (ECB) Chief Executive Officer Robert Kahimise says artificial intelligence-driven tools could reduce electricity costs through efficiencies.

The topic of the use of AI in the electrical sector has caused discomfort among many in the industry.

Kahimise described AI as a simulation of human intelligence in machines. He therefore says humans need to upskill and be proactive to prevent replacement.

This, Kahimise said, needs to be done to reduce the cost of supply by taking the lead of whatever is available to do so.

AI will optimise operations across the entire energy value chain from generation to distribution.

Energy Planning and Research Deputy Director Abraham Hangula stressed how AI will benefit the energy sector.

The 2024 Namibia Electricity Supply Forum was held under the theme 'Delivering the promise: Using smart solutions in an AI-driven environment to improve electricity access, affordability, and utility sustainability.'
