Residents of Kongola in the Zambezi Region have expressed disappointment with the provisional withdrawal of a corruption case in which a group of Zambezi Regional Council senior employees were implicated.

The case involved the Deputy Director for Administration, Abraham Shikuyeni, Chief Accountant Nimrod Lishela, Chief Regional Officer Regina Ndopu-Lubinda, Regional Director for Planning and Rural Development, Beaven Walubita, Deputy Director for Planning and Rural Development, Cletius Mubita, and Chief Development Planner Daniel Mbala, who allegedly used their offices to unprocedurally grant a N$4.7 million tender.

During a press conference, the group of residents, mostly made up of young people, relayed their disappointment.

They emphasised that Kongola lacks key services.

The group demanded that Governor Lawrence Sampofu respond to a petition sent to him. Governor Sampofu, however, said he cannot comment as the matter is sub judice.

The case was provisionally withdrawn over a month ago, with the state noting that the accused would return to court once the state is ready to proceed with the matter.
