Ohorongo Cement employee Jakobus Areseb has been elected as the President of the Mining, Metal, Maritime, and Construction Union (MMMCU) at Walvis Bay.
The union, which is affiliated with the Namibia National Labour Organisation (NANLO), held its first elective congress since its inception 10 years ago.
Areseb is deputised by Sam Sum.
Joseph ||Garoëb was elected as Secretary General, a position he has been acting in for the past three years.
Others who made it to the executive team include Peter Shaale, who will serve as the Mobilisation and Recruitment Officer deputised by Erick Mwahangese.
Brazzo Zamuee will serve as the National Treasurer and David Angombe as his deputy.
Lucas Kondo was elected as the Secretary for National Education, Training, and Research.
The new leadership is expected to set up policies to govern the union and further boost recruitment.
MMMCU has two branches in Windhoek and Walvis Bay with 1,500 members.
