As part of its efforts to coordinate agricultural investment in the county, the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform launched the Strategy for the Transformation of the Agri-Food Sector in Windhoek.

Among the strategy's objectives are for government to commit itself to the Malabo Declaration of allocating 10 percent of it's annual national budget towards agriculture and rural development for the up-liftment of livelihoods of the people.

In 2019, Namibia reaffirmed its commitment to the AU's Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme principles of sustainable agricultural growth, economic development and shared prosperity.

The aim is to achieve six percent annual agriculture growth rate; 30 percent job creation opportunities for the youth through agricultural value chains and triple intra-African trade in agricultural commodities and services.

To integrate small-scale farmers, cooperatives, women and youth groups into the mainstream of the agri-food sector,  the Agriculture ministry will construct small scale agro-processing facilities in all regions over the next strategic period.

At the occasion, Namibia's CAADP Compact was signed by representatives of key  stakeholders in the agriculture sector.

Through the pact, stakeholders in the agri-food sector will collectively commit to executing the plans outlined in the launched strategy.
