Swapo Party MP Richard Gaoseb has presented the National Council Standing Committee on Agriculture, Environment, and Natural Resources' report, based on its investigations into the status of Namibia's marine and inland fishing resources.
Namibia has abundant natural resources, including a rich marine eco-system as well as solar and wind energy.
These have attracted a lot of local as well as foreign investment.
While much of these natural resources are well known and researched, not as much is known and understood about the emerging hydrogen sector.
This, coupled with concern for the country's marine resources in light of reported illegal, unregulated, and unreported fishing activities both inland and offshore, has resulted in the committee's embarking on an oversight visit to the relevant sites.
Based on the findings, the committee recommends that the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises increase the budget allocation for the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources to enable them to carry out their function of monitoring and surveying the country's marine and inland fisheries resources.
The visit also assessed progress on green hydrogen projects in the ||Kharas and Erongo regions.
