The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) is strengthening transparency efforts ahead of the November elections.

Chairperson Dr. Elsie Nghikembua has invited all contesting political parties to witness firsthand the packaging and distribution of election materials. This invitation follows the signing of a Code of Conduct by political parties in Windhoek on Friday, underscoring a commitment to fair and credible elections.

As per the Electoral Calendar, special voting will take place on November 13.

"I am glad to announce that on the 1st of November 2024, the Commission successfully completed the packaging, distribution, and dispatch of ballot papers and non-sensitive materials for the Presidential and National Assembly elections to all 35 Namibian diplomatic missions. Furthermore, the consignment containing all election materials to Ondjiva and Menongue (Angola) has been dispatched."

As part of the ECN's commitment to ensuring transparency, Dr. Nghikembua said the Commission has extended an invitation to all participating 21 political parties to observe the packaging and distribution of both sensitive and non-sensitive election materials to the diplomatic missions.

Only 11 political parties have participated in the process thus far.

"As a Commission, we continue to appeal to all political parties contesting the 2024 National Elections to take part by observing the ongoing packing and distribution of election materials as a part of a shared responsibility in our democratic processes."

The packaging and distribution of election materials for special voting of members of the security clusters and sea-going personnel took place on the 7th of November.

The dispatch of these election materials to all 33 polling stations countrywide is scheduled to take place on the 9th.
