The Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation (MIRCO) says it is closely following the evolving situation in Mozambique, where violence has broken out after the general elections in early October.
Executive Director in the ministry, Ambassador Penda Naanda, says Namibia is concerned over the deteriorating political situation in Mozambique and calls for calm and peaceful resolution to any political differences that have arisen.
Naanda says the ministry is confident in the ability of Mozambique's democratic institutions and established processes to address the challenges in accordance with the country's constitution.
The ministry is urging Namibians who find themselves in distress in that country to contact the Namibian High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa, or the Namibian embassy in Harare for consular support.
