Victoria Kauma, the Constituency Councillor for Rundu Urban, expressed concern about the high crime rate, particularly in the Ndama area.
Kauma, who was speaking at a donation of chairs to the police, urged the Rundu Town Council and the police to speed up the process for the construction of a station there.
She further emphasised the importance of the community working with the police to combat crime.
Ndama is notoriously known to be a high-crime area in Rundu carried out by gangs of mostly unemployed youth.
The common crimes committed range from cellphone grabbing to assaults to rape.
"I want to see class A as it stands. The Ndama community, with its headman, has given you a bigger plot where you can station yourself. It is the matter of us, the Rundu Town Council, the regional constituency councillor, and the police, the commanders, our generals, to come on board, and our government to build that Class-A as it was approved so that we operate and eradicate crime in the constituency of Rundu-urban. We must eradicate crime totally."
Police Commander for the Kavango East Region, Andreas Haingura, implored the community to assist the police in eradicating crime.
"The Ndama community must come and work together with the police so that we can root out any criminal elements within our Ndama community."
The current Ndama mobile police station has been operating since this year and has 57 members operating on the ground.
