Vulnerable and destitute households in 20 towns and 18 villages in urban and peri-urban areas will receive N$600 from the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare's Conditional Basic Income Grant.
The executive director in the ministry, Ndiitah Nghipondoka-Robiati, stated that the registration of households has begun, as well as the verification and validation of prospective beneficiaries.
The process, which started from the 11th of November to December 21st.
Once the exercise is completed and all data recorded, the payment processes will then commence.
Currently there are 16,500 beneficiaries on the CBIG.
The BIG programme was conceived about three years ago in response to increasing economic distress, which has disproportionately impacted households.
Through cash assistance, the ministry aims to provide recipients with basic financial security to cover essential needs like food, clothing, and shelter.
The ministry explains that monitoring mechanisms have been put in place to assess the success and challenges of the grant over time.
This Conditional Basic Income Grant initiative is a commitment to alleviate poverty and empower marginalized communities economically.
