The National Unity Democratic Organisation (NUDO) President Dr. Utjiua Muinjangue stated that the party did not register a presidential candidate for the upcoming election because they recognise their limited chances of success.
Muinjangue made these remarks during the party's star rally in Okakarara.
Addressing NUDO members and supporters at the rally, Muinjangue explained that the decision not to field a presidential candidate reflects their realistic approach to leadership.
"In 2019, we registered a candidate because we made history as the first party to have a female president, and we wanted to amplify that achievement. However, this time we face a different situation with 21 registered political parties and 15 presidential candidates. As realistic leaders, we believe it would be misleading to take Namibians for granted or to overload the presidential ballot when we realistically know that our chances are slim."
She emphasized that, despite not fielding a presidential candidate, NUDO aims to increase its representation in the National Assembly.
Dr. Muinjangue also addressed rumors regarding her alleged membership in the Swapo Party.
"Rumors that I have joined Swapo are unfounded. How could I join Swapo and still be here in NUDO attire at a NUDO meeting? Only someone in need of psychiatric evaluation would wish for NUDO's demise and spread such falsehoods."
She acknowledged the challenges the party has faced but asserted that NUDO is stronger than any individual.
Muinjangue urged NUDO members to unite and participate actively in the upcoming elections on November 27.
