The Dâure Daman community has expressed dissatisfaction with the government, citing unresolved internal issues and alleged neglect. Community representatives claim that their concerns, raised through letters, petitions, and protests since 2023, have not been adequately addressed.

In August, the community elders met with Urban and Rural Development Minister Uutoni Erastus and Chief |Gaseb, where they requested the removal of Chief Sagarias Seibeb. They attributed their lack of trust in the leadership to several factors, including the failure to hold regular meetings and consultations, a disregard for traditional practices, and inadequate organizational structures.

On August 30, 2024, after extensive consultations, the community decided to appoint Chief Isaskar Tourob as acting Chief for six months. During this period, he is tasked with facilitating the nomination of a formal Chief, addressing governance issues, and initiating economic projects such as combating illegal mining and improving corporate social responsibility practices within the mining sector.

A letter sent to both Chief Sagarias Seibeb and Acting Chief Isaskar Tourob indicated that November 19, 2024, was designated for the formal enthronement of the Acting Chief. However, Chief Seibeb reportedly disregarded the notice and did not attend the scheduled meeting.

Tensions escalated at the Traditional Authority office when unrecognized councilors aligned with Chief Seibeb allegedly obstructed the elders from performing customary practices, leading to a dispute. The Namibian Police intervened to maintain order.

Following discussions, it was agreed that Acting Chief Tourob would continue in his role while preparations for a resolution would proceed. The community has scheduled a reconvening for November 29, 2024, to finalize arrangements and address the ongoing leadership challenges.
