The Electoral Commission of Namibia will announce the first official results of the Presidential and National Assembly Elections later this evening.
With extended voting still going on at identified polling stations until nine o'clock this evening, Namibians had been keenly awaiting results.
But the ECN says results will only be announced at the end of voting this evening.
The ECN's Chief Referenda and Electoral Officer, Petrus Shaama, says after the polls closed in many areas on Wednesday, vote counting at various polling stations was completed, and the Commission began verifying and compiling results at the collation centres in all the 121 constituencies.
This was followed by the upload of these results through the ECN's Election Results Management System to its Central Election Results Centre in Windhoek.
Shaama says this process is now at an advanced stage, with dedicated personnel having been assigned to oversee the results transmission process from the collation centres to the Central Election Results Centre.
"We anticipate that the preliminary results will be available shortly after the close of extended polls, and we aim to formally start announcing these results today. We understand the public's eagerness for this information and are working diligently to ensure accuracy prior to any announcements. We commit to keeping the public updated at every significant milestone," said Shaama.
The nbc will broadcast the results announcement live on all its platforms.
