The Landless People’s Movement (LPM) has taken legal action against the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) by filing an urgent application in the High Court to demand access to electoral materials from the 2024 National Assembly Elections. The LPM is challenging the ECN’s handling of the elections, focusing on irregularities surrounding the voting and counting processes on multiple dates.
The case centers on the election periods of November 13 and 27, as well as the extended polling dates from November 28 to 30.
The LPM seeks access to detailed election data, including the total number of votes cast, spoiled ballots, tendered votes, and seats obtained by political parties at each polling station. Additionally, they are questioning the constitutional validity of the extended polling dates.
The LPM alleges procedural lapses and seeks clarity on how the electoral process was conducted.
The High Court is expected to hear the matter on December 16.
