President Nangolo Mbumba departed for Cuba this morning for a state visit. Cuba and Namibia have a long-standing history of political and economic ties.

The president has been invited by the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

The visit aims for the two countries to engage in bilateral meetings with the objective of enhancing cooperation.

Additionally, the visit seeks to explore opportunities for strengthening economic collaboration, enhancing South-South cooperation, and fostering greater business and economic ties between the two nations.

Following Namibia’s independence, the two countries established diplomatic relations, with Cuba continuing to support Namibia in various sectors.

This support has included sending medical doctors and nurses to assist the Namibian health sector and providing qualified teachers to bolster the education system.

These cooperative efforts continue to this day.
